Itinerary

Riding Through the UNESCO Karst Plateau

Riding Through the Dramatic Limestone Landscapes of Ha Giang

Start the engine at 8:30 AM and leave Ha Giang City behind, heading into the winding mountain roads of the Dong Van Karst Plateau. The ride begins with the sweeping curves of Bac Sum Pass, where limestone peaks gradually rise around the road. Continue to Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate for a short walk to the viewpoint, offering panoramic views across the surrounding valleys and mountains.

After lunch in Yen Minh, ride toward the Twin Mountains and tackle the bends of Tham Ma Pass. The sequence of curves and changing elevations makes this a rewarding stretch for riders who enjoy mountain roads. Continue to Sa Phin Village to visit the historic Hmong King’s Palace, a stone-and-wood residence reflecting the cultural heritage of the region. The final stretch passes through the rugged landscapes of Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark before arriving in Dong Van in the afternoon.

If the day falls on Sunday, begin with a visit to Dong Van Market, where Hmong, Dao and Tay communities gather to trade local products and meet friends. Continue north toward Lung Cu Village along mountain roads with changing elevations and expansive views of the northern highlands. Visit Lung Cu Flag Tower, a prominent landmark near the Vietnam–China border, and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.

Return toward Dong Van before continuing to Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most spectacular sections of the Ha Giang Loop. The road follows steep mountainsides, with sharp bends and dramatic views over the Nho Que River far below. Ride carefully through the curves and stop at suitable viewpoints to appreciate the scale of the limestone canyon. Continue toward Meo Vac, following the mountain road through rugged peaks and deep valleys before arriving in town after an exhilarating day on the bike.

Cruising Through Tu San Canyon Before Riding to Du Gia

If the day falls on Sunday, start with a visit to Meo Vac Market, known for its livestock trading, handmade textiles and lively local atmosphere. Afterward, head down to the Nho Que River for a one-hour boat trip through Tu San Canyon. Towering limestone cliffs rise above the emerald-green water, offering a different perspective on the rugged mountains crossed by road the previous day.

Return to the motorcycles and continue toward Du Gia along quieter mountain roads through remote highland communities. The route features winding sections, rolling ridgelines and changes in elevation, with terraced fields and traditional villages appearing along the way. These less-travelled roads offer a rewarding riding experience away from the busier tourist areas.

Arrive in Du Gia in the late afternoon, where the peaceful valley and surrounding mountains provide a relaxing end to a day combining dramatic scenery and memorable riding.

Conquering the 14 Hairpin Bends of Me Pia Pass

Leave Du Gia and continue toward Pac Bo through the remote highlands of Northeast Vietnam. The route crosses rugged valleys and forested mountain areas, with winding roads and changing elevations creating a demanding and rewarding day in the saddle. Allow time for careful riding through the bends and enjoy the changing scenery as the route approaches Cao Bang Province.

One of the day’s major challenges is Me Pia Pass, famous for its series of 14 consecutive hairpin bends climbing a steep limestone mountainside. The road offers a memorable test of cornering technique and control, with a viewpoint near the top providing a chance to appreciate the unusual shape of the pass. Continue through traditional Tay and Nung communities toward Pac Bo, an important historical site associated with Ho Chi Minh’s return to Vietnam in 1941.

After parking the bikes, visit the area’s clear streams, limestone formations and revolutionary caves. The combination of remote mountain riding and historical significance makes this a distinctive stage of the Cao Bang Motorbike Tour.

Riding Across Cao Bang’s Karst Valleys to Ban Gioc Waterfall

Leave Pac Bo and ride toward Cao Bang City, following paved roads through the northern highlands. The route passes limestone hills, rural settlements and agricultural land, offering a different riding rhythm after the steeper mountain roads of previous days. Stop in Cao Bang City around midday for lunch and a fuel break before continuing east toward Ban Gioc Waterfall.

Beyond the city, the road winds through scenic valleys, terraced rice fields and traditional Tay and Nung villages. The changing landscape and flowing curves make the afternoon ride particularly enjoyable. As Ban Gioc Waterfall comes into view, the sound of rushing water signals arrival at one of northern Vietnam’s most impressive natural landmarks.

Visit the waterfall and take a bamboo raft, when available, to get closer to the cascading water and feel the cool mist. Finish the day at a traditional Tay homestay or nearby hotel, where a home-cooked meal provides a relaxing end to the ride.

Enjoy the final day's scenic ride through Cao Bang

Scenic Mountain Roads and the Limestone Wonders of Cao Bang

Enjoy a relaxed morning before taking a short ride to Truc Lam Phat Tich Pagoda in Dam Thuy. Located on a hillside overlooking the surrounding karst landscape, the pagoda offers panoramic views toward Ban Gioc Waterfall and the valley below. Take time to appreciate the scenery before returning to the road.

Continue to Nguom Ngao Cave, known for its impressive limestone formations, underground chambers and narrow passages shaped over millions of years. After visiting the cave, begin the final ride toward Cao Bang City along winding countryside roads that pass rural communities and limestone hills. The route provides a relaxed conclusion to the journey, allowing time to enjoy the landscapes of Northeast Vietnam before arriving in the city.

The tour ends in Cao Bang City, where arrangements can be made for onward transport to Hanoi or an additional overnight stay.

RIDER INFORMATION

Self-riders should hold a valid International Driving Permit (IDP – 1968 Convention) together with the appropriate motorcycle licence from their home country. Some licenses may not be valid in Vietnam. Please contact us for guidance on how to ride legally in Vietnam if your license is not valid.
Motorcycle protective gear includes a quality helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and a raincoat.
We recommend bringing your own riding gear, including a jacket, pants, gloves, and appropriate shoes or boots, as the sizes of our protective equipment may not be suitable for everyone.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is provided in twin or double rooms at local hotels or homestays, with 2 guests per room.
Couples can request a double bed, while two guests sharing a room can request twin beds.
Guests who prefer a separate room or a hotel room upgrade can request it for an additional charge.

LUGGAGE

Luggage can be carried securely on the motorcycle or arranged separately upon request.
We recommend bringing a backpack instead of a suitcase, as it is easier to secure on the motorcycle. Suitcase transport to the tour's endpoint is available for an additional fee.
