Conquering Winding Passes and Limestone Mountain Roads

Depart Ha Giang City at 8:30 AM and begin riding north into the rugged highlands. The road quickly leaves the urban surroundings behind, leading into a series of bends and climbs along Bac Sum Pass. Follow the curves at a comfortable pace as the landscape opens into dramatic limestone peaks and deep valleys. Continue to Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate, where a short walk to the viewpoint reveals panoramic views across the surrounding mountains and misty valley.

After lunch in Yen Minh, continue toward Tham Ma Pass, famous for its tight switchbacks and striking mountain scenery. The road demands attention through the corners, making this stretch particularly rewarding for riders who enjoy winding mountain routes. Continue to Sa Phin Village to visit the historic Hmong King’s Palace, a stone-and-wood residence reflecting the region’s cultural heritage. The final stretch leads through Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark toward Dong Van, where the old town provides a relaxing place to finish the first day.

The Mighty Ma Pi Leng and Hidden Valley Roads

Riding Ma Pi Leng Pass and Cruising the Nho Que River

If the day falls on Sunday, begin with a visit to Dong Van Market, where local ethnic communities gather to trade produce, livestock and handmade textiles. Afterward, get back on the bike and head toward Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most spectacular sections of the Ha Giang Loop. The road follows steep mountainsides, with winding curves and breathtaking views over the deep canyon below. Ride carefully through the bends and stop at designated viewpoints to appreciate the dramatic limestone landscape.

After crossing the pass, descend toward the Nho Que River for a one-hour boat trip through Tu San Canyon. Towering limestone cliffs rise above the emerald-green water, creating one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Ha Giang. Once back on the road, continue toward Du Gia Village along winding mountain routes surrounded by rugged peaks, narrow valleys and terraced fields. Stop at suitable roadside viewpoints for photos or a short coffee break before completing the ride through the peaceful countryside.

Arrive in Du Gia in the late afternoon, where traditional village life and mountain scenery provide a relaxing end to an exhilarating day of riding.

Exploring Du Gia’s Countryside Before the Final Ride Back

Start the morning in Du Gia Village and ride through the surrounding countryside, where terraced fields, limestone hills and traditional houses line the route. Visit Du Gia Waterfall, a peaceful natural spot tucked among the greenery. Depending on local conditions, take time for a refreshing swim or relax beside the water before getting ready for the final ride.

Continue toward Ha Giang City along winding rural roads that pass through small villages, mountain slopes and cultivated valleys. The changing road surfaces, curves and elevation shifts keep the ride engaging, while the scenery offers a final look at the landscapes that make the Ha Giang Loop so memorable. Ride at a comfortable pace, allowing time to appreciate the countryside and observe daily life in the local communities.

Arrive back in Ha Giang City at approximately 3:00 PM, completing a three-day self-riding adventure through mountain passes, limestone valleys and traditional villages.
